VENUES

The course will be split in two subsequent weeks and will take place in two different locations. The first week will be held in the city of Lecce (southern Italy) in a 19th century neo-Reinassance theatre surrounded by the Baroque old city centre.

For the second week students and teachers will move about 40 km south-east in the city of Otranto, a splendid location on the Adriatic sea. Weather in November is usually foretold to be dry and still reasonably warm in this region.

By air:
Nearest airport is Brindisi. Direct flights to Brindisi from where you live may not be available but you should be able to find a connection through Rome or Milan. Please remember that traveling by reasonably low-cost transportation is a requirement in order to get a full refund of travel expenses.
Brindisi Airport is located 45 km North of Lecce. From the airport a bus will take you to Lecce – City Terminal at a price of 5 euros (carrier SITA, leaving every 2 hours from 6h00 to 23h30, tickets can be bought on-board without extra charge). The City Terminal is only 100 meters from Hotel Tiziano. (http://www.grandhoteltiziano.it/)

FOR THOSE WHO ARE PLANNING TO GET TO BRINDISI BY FLIGHT AND WHO HAVE TO CHANGE PLANE IN ROME: many have noticed that the flight Rome-Brindisi can be very expensive, or even as expensive as coming to Rome or Milan from overseas. There is the possibility to come directly to Lecce by train or bus from Rome. The train Rome-Lecce takes about 6 hours (with the fast line Eurostar) and the round-trip costs about 90 euros. There is also a direct bus (Marozzi) Roma-Lecce that takes about 7 hours and costs about 60 euros round-trip.

The direct train leaves from Rome Termini railway station at 7h38, 13h38, 15h38.
The direct bus (Marozzi) leaves from Rome Tiburtina railway station at 10h00, 11h00, 15h30, 24h00.
For the return trip, the same bus actually leaves from Otranto at 10h30 and gets to Rome at 17h30.

Please check if the above can be more convenient to you. As far as total travel time is concerned, the train or bus from Rome to Lecce can be equivalent to flying Rome-Brindisi because once you are in Brindisi you still have to come to Lecce by bus (check-in in Rome plus flight plus wait for the bus plus bus trip, etc).

By Train:
From Lecce railway station take bus No 31. Bus tickets (0.77 euros) can be bought at SGM desk just outside the station or on-board with 0.23 euros extra charge (1 euro total). Hotel Tiziano is visible to the left of bus direction and after about 5 minutes driving.

PLEASE NOTE that from Greece, Turkey, the Balcans, and a few eastern Mediterranean countries there are daily connections by boat to Brindisi. You should check this option with your travel agencies.
