EUROPEAN TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM FOR SUSTAINABLE CHEMISTRY
The European Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry (SusChem) seeks to boost chemistry and chemical engineering research, development and innovation in Europe.
Its main goal is to provide means to foster effective public-private partnership involving public research, industry, financial institutions, users, regulatory authorities, and policy-makers to support research and innovation for competitive growth in the sustainable chemistry sector.
In SusChem all the stakeholders share a “vision” of more sustainable future and a common approach for the development of the technologies involved with a specific attention to the definition of a Strategic Research Agenda.
The Platform’s overall activities are managed by a high-level Platform Board, consisting of nominees from the main stakeholder groups and representing the three technology working groups. These working groups coordinate their activities in the key technology areas: Industrial Biotechnology, Materials Technologies, Reaction & Process Design. There are also a Horizontal Issues group which aims at identifying and eliminating the ‘horizontal barriers’ (such as economic or financial barriers, regulation and social acceptance) to chemical innovation and a Mirror Group consisting of representatives of Member States and other stakeholder organisations, that allows coordination with national initiatives and projects. The Platform is supported by a professional Platform Secretariat
INCA Consortium promotes the creation of an Italian Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry, at national and international level, connected to SusChem activities. Prof. Pietro Tundo (e-mail: tundop@unive.it), Chairman of INCA Consortium, is the Italian delegate in the Mirror Group.
With the aim of constituting the Italian Platform, INCA Consortium carried out a series of initiatives, such as the draft of papers and the organization of meetings at national and international level.
