“INCA NEWS” is the newsletter of the INCA Consortium.
It reports mostly on INCA various initiatives. Moreover it brings news onactivities related to Green Chemistry and developed in different contexts,such as governments and ministries, public agencies, international NGOs,chemical industry, associations, etc.

INCA NEWS – No. 3 – December 10th, 2007.

1. Pure and Applied Chemistry
A Special Topic Issue on Green-Sustainable Chemistry is being printed by IUPAC in its official journal “Pure and Applied Chemistry”, Vol. 79, No 11 (2007).
http://www.incaweb.org/events/pdf/PAC_nov07_cover.pdf
The outline of this issue and the abstract are available at the following page:
http://www.iupac.org/publications/pac/79/11/
The PAC Special Topic Issue is based on lectures presented at the 1st International IUPAC Conference on Green-Sustainable Chemistry, held in Dresden, Germany, 10-15 September 2006 and has been planned with the aim of  extending the knowledge on green chemistry, not disregarding, however, the industrial interest.
Preface: “…In recent times, in fact, the difference between sustainable chemistry and green chemistry is becoming more evident. Sustainable chemistry envisages an industrial involvement and promotion with the aim of achieving fewer pollutant processes and more valuable products, maintaining, at the same time, profits. Whereas green chemistry is more forward-looking because it is not necessarily connected to profits, it involves fundamental aspects and does not aim automatically at an industrial process. There is a great need to create a new type of chemistry focused on a new production system and utilization of chemical derivatives, in order to prepare the younger generation to reach a greener future.”

2. EuCheMS: European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences
EuCheMS promotes co-operation in Europe between non-profit-making scientific and technical societies in the field of chemistry whose membership consists largely of individual qualified chemical and molecular scientists and whose interests include the science and/or practice of chemistry.
http://www.euchems.org/
At the recently held EuCheMS General Assembly (Frankfurt, 4-5 October 2007) the formation of the Working Party on Green and Sustainable Chemistry has been officially approved http://www.euchems.org/Divisions/GSE/index.asp.
So far 16 distinguished scientists, coming from 14 distinct Member Societies, have joined the WP.

3. Chemistry International
The cover story on the latest issue of IUPAC’s News Magazine, Chemistry International (September-October 2007, Volume 29, No. 5) , is entitled “Green Chemistry on the Rise-Thoughts on the Short History of the Field” . The article provides a brief overview of the ongoing research and events in the field of Green Chemsitry.

4. Summer School on Green Chemistry, 10th Event, 2008. Recommencement. Venice, (12-18 October 2008)
The Summer School on Green Chemistry is an annual event which has run over the last nine years. The last event of this series has been the NATO Advance Study Institute on Green Chemistry (Lecce, Italy, October 2006).
After a one year interim, organisers of the school are pleased to announce the Summer School on Green Chemistry will recommence at the usual venue in Venice, Italy (12-18 October 2008). This event will be characterised by a special focus on safer and innovative solvent inspired by SOLVSAFE, a large European Integrated Project, funded within the 7th Framework Programme.

5. INCA Incoming Fellowship
INCA Executive Board has approved a modification to the rules that govern the financing of Fellowships in the frame of  INCA’s Working Groups (WG). As from the 1st of January 2008, category 2 Fellowship, will also be extended to incoming Fellows. That is, WG’s can request support for the visits of researchers from abroad to one or more INCA’s Research Units (RU).
Candidates who are interested to spend a period of few months in one of INCA’s RU, are invited to contact the head of the RU (see http://www.incaweb.org/inca/members.php), who will be in charge to eventually start the administrative procedures within INCA.

6. Marie Curie Fellowships.
The European Union, through the 7th Framework Programme, launches on a regular basis a number of Calls dedicated to researchers with diversified professional experiences.  Individual Fellowships include: Intra-European Fellowships (IEF), International Outgoing Fellowships (IOF) and International Incoming Fellowships (IIF).

The INCA laboratories in Italy will support applications for individually-driven fellowships and act as a host institution for researchers to undertake projects in the following areas:
Green Chemistry;
Decontamination;
Advanced analytical analysis;
Bioremedation.

Since the drafting of the proposal is a rather complex procedure we advise possible candidates to act in time.  Interested applicants are invited to email Dr Alberto Procopio (Procopio_inca@unive.it) or info_INCA@unive.it to express their willingness to collaborate with the INCA Consortium in this respect (please type “FP7 Fellowship” in the subject line).
