THE ASSESSMENT
The second assessment
of the INCA Consortium for scientific research
activities of 1997-2001 ended on October 2003.
Its results were presented in Rome on November
27th, 2003.
The president of the
Commission in charge of the assessment was Prof.
Alberto Amaral, former Rector of University of
Porto (Portugal), president of CIPES (Centre for
Research in Higher Education Policies), and vice-president
of the European University Association. The line-up
of the Commission also included four international
experts in the field of research evaluation.
Most of the Research
Units of INCA submitted a complete self-evaluation
form.
This, along with on-field
audits, allowed the Commission to assess scientific
quality, productivity, relevance (of publications),
and viability of the units, finally yielding a
numeric score for each of them.
The Commission also gave ten general recommendations
to INCA Consortium, among which to keep on contributing
to diffusion of chemistry for the environment,
to profit from the assessment and adopt corrective
measures, e.g. increasing interconnections and
quality of the Research Units and modifying the
directive board in order to support a proper future
development of INCA, according to the indications
of the assessment.
