Brief Curriculum Vitae

Carles Estévez is co-founder and scientific director of IUCT (Science and Technology Institute. Mollet del Valles. Spain). He is currently in charge of the Green Chemistry Program. Since 1997 he is principal investigator of several projects related to the industrial application of green chemistry. He currently maintains an active collaboration with companies in sectors ranging from the pharmaceutical fine chemicals to the biodiesel production. Several research projects under his direction have been partially supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, and the European Commission. His main research interests are the use of alternative safer solvents in commercial production of APIs, the reduction/elimination of PBT substances in industrial syntheses, and bio-based syntheses. He has published 3 patents related to the application of ionic liquids and biotechnological methods to the synthesis of fine chemicals.

Educational Activities Carles Estévez is actively involved in educational initiatives in the area of green chemistry. Since 1999 he has organized annually the IUCT Experimental Green Chemistry Course for postgraduates and industrial chemists and the Green Chemistry Conference in Barcelona. He has teached in international courses in Italy (the Summer School on Green Chemistry at the University of Venice under the EU TMR Program) and Egypt (EU TEMPUS project). He maintains active collaborations with the Green Chemistry Institute of the American Chemical Society. In Spain, he teaches “Industrial Application of Sustainable Chemistry” in the Interuniversity PhD Course on Sustainable Chemistry, approved by the Spanish Ministry of Education as a PhD programme of excellence.
Scientific Networks Carles Estévez was co-founder and now secretary of the Green Chemistry Network of Spain. Since 2005, he is member of the Governing Council of the Spanish Sustainable Chemistry Technological Platform, where he coordinates the “Reactions & Processes Design” Branch.
