Tempus Joint European Project
«Sustainable Environmental Development, A Curriculum Development Project»
Acronym: SEDC - Project #: JEP-30031-2002 (September 2003 - February 2007) |
| An overview |
Tempus is a programme by the European Commission designed to facilitate social and economical changes in partner countries, upgrading their superior educational systems via a collaboration with member States of the European Union. The programme is based on the concept that superior educational systems are fundamental for economical and social transition processes and cultural progress. Among Tempus eligible projects, Curriculum Development Projects are those whose task is to 'create new courses or upgrade existing ones and increase the know-how of the teaching staff'. Besides all the EU member states, eligible countries for Tempus are those of the former Soviet Union, the Balcan area and the Mediterranean basin (MEDA), such as Egypt. Tempus was the perfect funding programme for satisfying the urgent need of know-how in the field of environment protection and sustainable development at a university level in Egypt. The Tempus Joint European Project “Sustainable Environmental Development, A Curriculum Development Project (SEDC) was selected in early Summer 2003 and activities started on September 2003 and ended on February 2007. The beneficiary of the action was Suez Canal University (Ismailia, Egypt).
The activities of the project will be continuated and extended to other Mediterranean countries through the MEGREC network. |
